For the Love of Comrades
New Conservatory Theatre Center
25 Van Ness Avenue San Francisco
Beneath the heel of oppression, two groups forge a totally unexpected alliance -- and discover that standing together makes for the strongest union of all -- in historical drama For the Love of Comrades. Now in its U.S. premiere at New Conservatory Theatre Center, this acclaimed new play from Northern Ireland uncovers the largely unknown but fascinating partnership between Welsh miners and the LGBT community in Thatcher-era Britain, which spawned the successful Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners campaign in 1984. These captivating historical events also inspired the award-winning 2014 film Pride.
