Pleiades
Phoenix Theatre San Francisco
414 Mason St. San Francisco
Dubbed "the love child of Jane Austen and Wendy Wasserstein" and labeled an editor's pick by Theatre Bay Area magazine, Pleiades follows a septet of siblings in their teens and early 20s as they face the second wave of the feminist movement in 1971. These wildly diverse women come together on an eventful Fourth of July weekend in the Hamptons, where they jostle over their place in the family and find themselves intrigued by both a politically active feminist and a hunky Vietnam vet. Award-winning local playwright Marissa Skudlarek's world premiere was inspired by the Greek myth of the daughters of Atlas, who were turned into stars and chased across the sky by Orion.
