Safe House
Aurora Theatre
2081 Addison Street Berkeley
Inspired by playwright Keith Josef Adkins' own ancestors, Safe House explores the tension that arises in a free black family in 1843 Kentucky between two brothers who're in love with the same woman -- the more conservative eldest who wants to establish his own cobbler business, and the passionate youngest, who wants to risk it all by helping fugitive slaves. Now in its 25th anniversary season, Berkeley's Aurora Theatre Company stages the West Coast premiere of this drama, dubbed "an amazing piece of theater" by BroadwayWorld.com: "It makes you laugh, it makes you cry, and it's genuinely thought-provoking."
