The Box

In 2009, Sarah Shourd and her friends went on a hike in the Middle East that would change her life forever. They were lured across the border by a guard into Iran, captured and accused of spying against the government. Inspired by her harrowing, 410-day sentence in solitary confinement, The Box is Shourd's examination of this form of punishment. Exploring the tragic, and sometimes painfully comic, realities of life "inside the box," the play tracks characters who make life-changing journeys against all odds. A rare glimpse into the underbelly of our prison system, The Box asks the important question, what happens when you have nothing left to lose?
