The Haze
A.C.T.
415 Geary St. San Francisco
San Francisco's annual Bay to Breakers footrace is as famed as its host city for its fun and flamboyant party atmosphere. But writer-performer Heather Marlowe instead endured a horrific experience, as she was drugged and raped at the event. This sharp-witted autobiographical play delves into the aftermath of the assault and the absurdity of the systems set up to deal with that specific crime, even in a supposedly enlightened city like Frisco. The show's director, Berkeley Rep regular Jean-Michele Gregory calls the story "daring and astonishing -- and frequently funny, because part of Marlowe's gift is her ability to find the absurd and the beautiful in the midst of the banal and the horrible."
