Aida
War Memorial Opera House
301 Van Ness Ave. San Francisco
With sets inspired by the work of acclaimed graffiti artist RETNA, Giuseppe Verdi's Aida, the grandest of grand operas, strikes a brilliant balance between spectacular pageantry and emotional intimacy. Composed at the request of the King of Egypt for the opening of the Suez Canal in 1871, the opera tells the tragic tale of a love triangle in which an enslaved Ethiopian princess' love for the military leader Radames is doomed when hers chosen to be the future groom of the Pharaoh's daughter. Featuring San Francisco Opera favorites Brian Jagde and Leah Crocetto, this stunning production, sung in Italian with English supertitles, takes the stage of the War Memorial Opera House.
