Needles and Opium
A.C.T.
415 Geary St. San Francisco
Staged inside a vast cube suspended over the stage at San Francisco's Geary Theater, Needles and Opium follows jazz legend Miles Davis on his 1949 travels to Europe, where he discovers the pleasures of Paris, unlocks his creativity and finds his heroine in Juliette Gréco. At the same time, French filmmaker Jean Cocteau embarks on his own opium-fueled journey of discovery to New York. Visionary director Robert Lepage's production frames interlocking scenes of two very different journeys into one. The story then reveals thrilling and heartbreaking insights into the artistic minds of two masters. Lepage's hyper-theatrical work fuses his signature stagecraft and refined visual storytelling into a single unforgettable experience.
